Surviving a Tragic Car Accident: A Personal Account by a Svesve

ree

It’s challenging to articulate the whirlwind of emotions that have engulfed Svesve Hodsa following a recent car accident. Svesve was involved in a fatal incident that irrevocably altered their life. The driver of their vehicle tragically lost his life instantly after a head-on collision with a haulage truck. Svesve feels incredibly fortunate to be alive, yet the ensuing pain and uncertainty have been overwhelming.

The Accident

In the car were four individuals: the driver, Svesve's brother, their electrician, and Svesve themselves. They were on their way back from a prospecting trip at a gold mine, with supplies for Roxanne Junior School packed in the trunk. Suddenly, a massive truck veered into their lane and struck them head-on. The impact was catastrophic, and Svesve is still grappling with the aftermath.

In the Hospital

Svesve was hospitalized, enduring excruciating pain. Their face is swollen, and they sustained a head injury. The medical team is recommending a brain scan, but the cost of $400 is daunting. Financially, Svesve is in dire straits, especially after just reopening the school following a term break. All their resources have been directed toward providing supplies for the students.

The Struggles of Healthcare

Unfortunately, the healthcare system in Svesve's region is severely lacking. Hospitals are devoid of essential medications, forcing many to purchase drugs from the streets. Government facilities are in disrepair, while private hospitals remain accessible only to the affluent. This dire situation has made it incredibly challenging for individuals like Svesve to receive adequate care.

Hope and Gratitude

Despite these obstacles, Svesve expresses deep gratitude for the support we have received. We have managed to gather the necessary funds, and Svesve went to undergo the brain scan at a private clinic in the capital city. The doctors had been working to stabilize his blood pressure, which has been alarmingly high anbd is now under control and the test came back as normal.

Svesve cannot emphasize enough how thankful they are for the assistance provided during this difficult time. The support has not only aided their health but also benefited the school. Fortunately, after undergoing tests, nothing serious was detected in Svesve's brain, and their blood pressure has returned to normal.

Moving Forward

With health on the mend, Svesve is eager to return to work. The remaining funds he received for the testing is being utilized to repaint the school buildings, fostering a more vibrant environment for the students. Svesve plans to share pictures of the new look, which will boast colorful walls and artistic decorations.

Looking Ahead

In addition to these improvements, Svesve is excited to announce that visitors from the US will be arriving from July 20th to July 31st. Marrla Cheree, who was part of the Zim team with Roxanne originally, will be joining with her husband and stepson to assist in building playground equipment for Roxanne Junior School. This presents an exciting opportunity for the students, and Svesve looks forward to witnessing the positive impact it will create.

Reflecting on this experience, Svesve is reminded of the fragility of life and the significance of community support. They extend heartfelt thanks for being part of their journey toward recovery and for helping to strengthen the school.

Below are photos of the destroyed vehicle from the accident, serving as a sobering reminder of how close Svesve came to losing everything.
